Melody Cheung

Melody Cheung, Flutist

Born in Hong Kong, her passion for playing the flute was ignited at age 10 when she heard the captivating, warm, and lustrous sound of the instrument.

5 years later at her first contest at the Texas University Interscholastic League, she received a Division One Rating for her solo from Mary Karen Clardy, Regents Professor of Flute at the University of North Texas.  Thereafter, she continued competing and winning major competitions at the regional, area and state levels.   Her highest honor as a Texas music student was winning 2nd chair at the TMEA Texas All-State Band.

These accomplishments provided the opportunity for her to study with Jacob Berg, Principal Flute for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra where she was able to advance her studies in style and interpretation while mastering tone and technique.

She conducted Phantom of the Opera for the Elsik Mighty Rams Marching Band and has performed with the flute choir at the Colburn Music School in Los Angeles and Washington University in St. Louis.  She has also performed with the Silicon Beach Philharmonic and thru their Healing Music program.  She also enjoys mentoring young students and has taught private lessons in Michigan and California.

Melody aspires to continually improve her musicality, inspired by her favorite flutists such as Emmanuel Pahud, Sir James Galway & Jasmine Choi.  She continues her studies today through Masterclass lessons from composer/flutist Gary Schocker. Currently, she enjoys performing live flute music for wedding ceremonies and special events across the US and is available for bookings.

When not playing the flute, she is an avid traveler, snowboarder and landscape/wildlife photographer, having explored over 60 countries spanning 6 continents. She and her husband are always on the lookout for their next travel adventure, but also enjoy spending quality time at home with all of their furbabies.
