Ben Bartelt

Ben Bartelt has performed in a dozen countries on six continents, and across fifteen of the United States of America. As an orchestral musician, he has toured internationally with the YMF Debut Orchestra and the Junges Stuttgarter Bach Ensemble, and has performed under conductors such as Neville Marriner, Simon Rattle, Michael Tilson Thomas, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Krzysztof Penderecki, Osmo Vänskä, David Zinman and Nicolas McGegan. He has performed in the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, as a substitute for the New World Symphony and as guest principal violist of the Juneau Symphony. An active freelancer in Southern California, Ben has performed with Camerata Pacifica and for the Dilijan Chamber Music Series, Pacific Serenades, the Enlightenment Music Series, The Music Guild’s “Coffee, Cookies and Concerts” series, the Burbank Chamber Music Society, and the Colburn Chamber Music Society. He has performed in productions for the Pacific Opera Project, Musical Theatre West and with the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra. Ben has also performed for the Bruman Summer Music Festival and Festival Mozaic, in addition to receiving fellowships to the Music Academy of the West and the Lucerne Festival Academy, among others. As a chamber musician, Mr. Bartelt is a founding member of the Euler String Quartet, a group focusing on contemporary music; and DuselForty58, a crossover ensemble that performs music from Bach to jazz. Ben received his B.A. Music summa cum laude from UCLA under the instruction of Richard O’Neill. He continued his studies with full scholarships to the Yale University School of Music and to the Colburn Conservatory, where he studied under the guidance of Ettore Causa and Paul Coletti, respectively. Ben plays on an Audinot bow on generous loan from the Maestro Foundation.
